Global BCI Firms Expand Footprint in Nanjing Qixia, Building a Leading Industry Hub

On September 19, the Jiangsu Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Innovation and Development Conference was held in Qixia District, Nanjing. Four industry-academia-research collaboration projects were signed, seven academicians delivered reports, and multiple companies presented technology roadshows. The Jiangsu BCI Industry Development Report (2026) was also released at the event.

At the conference, G.tec, a globally leading Austrian BCI company, officially established its presence in Qixia District. Its China headquarters, registered as Jitaike Brain-Computer Technology Co., Ltd., completed registration. With 27 years of industry expertise, G.tec has developed internationally leading technologies in closed-loop neurorehabilitation, disorders of consciousness assessment, and intraoperative brain function mapping. Its products hold both U.S. and EU certifications and are used by leading medical institutions worldwide. All registration procedures—business registration, legal advisory, banking, site selection, and regulatory filing—were completed in a single day. In Qixia, G.tec will establish R&D, clinical research, and partial production operations, covering research-grade equipment, clinical products, and consumer-facing applications.

The partnership began earlier this year. The Jiangsu BCI Research Institute first contacted G.tec via its public email, kickstarting a series of reciprocal visits. In May, a Qixia delegation visited Austria; in June, G.tec’s Asia-Pacific head came to Nanjing; and in September, founder Christoph Guger visited in person. The next day, Qixia District, together with the Jiangsu BCI Research Institute and Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital, organized a coordination meeting to address the company’s questions on medical device registration and clinical pathways. That same evening, the company decided to establish its operations in Nanjing.

Several local innovation projects were also signed at the event. Nanjing Shengdu Medical Technology, focused on ultrasound-based BCI technology, completed a RMB 20 million (approximately USD 2.8 million) seed round. The team is working to overcome the challenge of drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier and is developing a mobile bedside diagnostic and therapeutic device, offering a new pathway for treating glioma and other major brain diseases. Other projects in non-invasive brain monitoring and AI-driven brain science intervention also landed in the district.

Nanjing’s strong talent pool, active clinical innovation, and dense network of top-tier hospitals were key reasons for G.tec’s decision. The city’s status as a national transportation hub also played an important role. Nanjing’s coordinated, dedicated support further reinforced the company’s confidence in establishing operations in the city. Jiangsu Province has now collected more than 150 typical BCI application scenarios and launched a provincial rollout initiative. Qixia District is forging deeper links among innovation, industry, capital, and talent, accelerating its development into a leading BCI industry cluster in China.
