As Jiangsu Province’s sole national-level new area, Nanjing’s Jiangbei New Area has leveraged its strategic location along the Yangtze River’s golden waterway to develop a comprehensive river-sea intermodal transport system. In H1 2026, Qiba Port achieved strong growth in foreign trade efficiency and cargo throughput, alongside marked reductions in logistics costs and accelerated clustering of port-related industries—laying a solid foundation for Nanjing’s export-oriented economy and investment promotion.
The port sustained steady, sound momentum through the first half of the year, with efficient and orderly loading and unloading operations. Container throughput exceeded 250,000 TEUs, up 30.72% year-on-year. Foreign trade volume surged 65.36% year-on-year, meeting H1 targets and steadily expanding the region’s capacity to support international trade.
In late May, Qiba Port completed its first-ever customs clearance for imported containers, establishing a full-chain service for foreign trade imports and marking an important milestone. Previously, local enterprises had to route imports across the river, which entailed high logistics costs and lengthy transit cycles. The port now offers one-stop customs clearance and cargo collection, cutting average per-container land transport costs by 20%. This significantly speeds up logistics turnaround while reducing operating expenses for foreign trade enterprises.
Boosted by the port’s upgraded handling capacity, supporting industrial resources have gathered around the port area. The Jiangbei STO Smart Logistics Park delivers customized warehousing, transshipment and intermodal transport services tailored to key sectors including integrated circuits and advanced manufacturing. Capitalizing on the port’s river-sea intermodal advantages, major home appliance manufacturers such as Haier, Skyworth and Meiling have established operations in the park, driving the warehouse occupancy rate from 60% to 90%.
Meanwhile, Nanjing Port Jiangbei Container Company has launched a dedicated point-to-point intermodal route between Nanjing and Hefei, with regular services for oversize cargo and container haulage. The route opens inland logistics corridors, expands cargo sources, and delivers sustained reductions in enterprises’ overall logistics spending.
Currently, Qiba Port has operated a two-way logistics circulation network linking domestic and foreign trade. It enables high-quality local products to reach global markets via river and sea transportation, while allowing overseas raw materials and equipment to be delivered directly to local manufacturing facilities.
