On September 9, Germany’s Schaeffler Group signed an investment agreement with Jiangning District, Nanjing, to establish the Schaeffler Nanjing Industrial Bearing Test Center at Phase III of Jiangning Science Park. With a planned area of about 2 hectares, the project will focus on building an R&D and testing platform for wind turbine bearings and developing industry‑leading test benches for these bearings.

The project marks Schaeffler’s latest expansion in Nanjing. Once completed, it will help fill a gap in testing and verification for high-end bearings, completing Schaeffler’s end-to-end chain from R&D and manufacturing to testing and certification. It will also improve product precision and reliability and strengthen market competitiveness. This reinforces Nanjing’s position as a key global production and technology hub for Schaeffler Group.
Founded in 1946, Schaeffler Group is a leading global supplier of motion technology. Since entering China in 1995, Schaeffler has continued to expand its local footprint. Established in Jiangning in 2011, Schaeffler (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. has grown into one of the group’s core global production bases. With more than 2,200 employees, it manufactures a wide range of high-end bearings and core components for industrial, wind power, precision, railway, and automotive applications.

Schaeffler’s continued investment reflects the growth of Jiangning’s intelligent manufacturing equipment cluster. In the first half of this year, output from 541 large-scale intelligent manufacturing equipment companies in Jiangning increased by 9.0 percent year on year, accounting for 47.3 percent of the district’s total industrial output from large-scale industrial enterprises. Jiangning has attracted 59 intelligent manufacturing equipment projects this year, with a total investment of about 6.8 billion yuan, further expanding the industrial cluster.
Nanjing’s solid industrial base, complete supply chain, mature innovation ecosystem, and efficient government services are key reasons why leading foreign-invested enterprises choose to establish and grow here. Jiangning District provides end-to-end support for project implementation, corporate expansion, and capacity expansion through “Bangningban”, its one-stop corporate service platform for government procedures and business services. This support fosters a stable, predictable, and efficient industrial environment, helping key projects start construction and begin operations as early as possible.

The establishment of the industrial bearing test center reflects Schaeffler’s long‑term confidence in Nanjing’s strategic location, industrial ecosystem, and innovation potential. Going forward, Nanjing will leverage the technology and platform strengths of leading enterprises to boost innovation across its intelligent manufacturing equipment supply chain, drive the industry toward higher-end, more precise, and smarter manufacturing, and attract more high-quality global industrial resources.
