As Nanjing prepares to host the 8th APEC Ministerial Meeting on Human Resources Development, TLC (Nanjing) Pharmaceutical R&D Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Canada’s TLC Group, has emerged as a standout model foreign enterprise deeply rooted in the city. Over a decade of operation in the Pukou Economic Development Zone, the company has grown steadily—a clear example of foreign investment thriving alongside local industries.

Founded in 2015 as a wholly-owned subsidiary in the Pukou Economic Development Zone with an initial registered capital of US$2.5 million, TLC focuses on R&D of pharmaceutical reference standards and provides pharmaceutical companies worldwide with custom synthesis services for stable isotope-labeled drugs, drug metabolites, and drug impurities. The company has steadily expanded its local investment and production capacity, increasing its registered capital to US$4.5 million in 2020 and further to US$8.5 million in 2026, while growing its in-house R&D team to more than 200 professionals. Leveraging Nanjing’s robust industrial chain and abundant talent pool, over 80% of its employees are locally recruited, further consolidating its localized R&D capabilities.

Through years of dedicated focus on this high-end specialized niche, TLC has developed more than 50,000 pharmaceutical reference standards. It holds a leading market position in frontier areas including isotope-labeled products for semaglutide and tirzepatide, as well as nitrosamine impurity standards. The company is also actively advancing research on emerging PFAS contaminant standards, continually pushing the boundaries of pharmaceutical technology innovation.

Moving forward, TLC will sustain robust R&D investment and prioritize core research areas such as quantitative NMR reference standards. It will deepen collaboration across industry, academia, and research institutions, and introduce world-class technical resources to address key technical bottlenecks in specialized fields, empowering the global pharmaceutical industry with high-quality, Nanjing-developed R&D capabilities.
